Despite all the advances in container-growing and plant growing media, the bare root planting of trees and hedging is still a very important and very cost-effective part of the nursery and landscaping calendar.
Why plant bare-root?
Hedging plants like hawthorn, beech and hornbeam are grown en masse in fields. They do not require the intensive care that such plants would need if they were in pots. As a result, the cost can be anything up to a fifth. Being bare-root, they can also be planted more quickly rendering the whole operation cheaper than it's spring or summer equivalent. That said, planting can he hampered by frost, snow or waterlogging.
What do Barters Supply?
In days gone by, Barters used to grow a wide range of open ground trees, but like many others the returns for years of investment and care were poor. We now source from larger UK growers which gives the advantage of being able to source exactly what you are looking for.
Ash Dieback
Sadly as a result of Ash dieback, we won't be supplying any ash trees this year. All movements have been suspended until dieback-free zones have been set up. These won't be designated until the spring.
Species lists
Below you will find a couple of lists which will give you an idea of the species and sizes we most commonly supply. There are many other species that we supply, but which are only occasionally requested. If you have any queries, please get in touch.
